Accidentally Vegan: Mamba! – NO LONGER VEGAN (they added gelatin)

Note: A huge thank you to Kim W. who wrote in to tell me that Mamba is no longer vegan :( I have written to the company to ask if they’ll be removing the new gelatin formulation in the future. Until further notice, it’s off the Yummy Plants Approved list.

Summer is in full bloom, and there is abundance of fruit flavors everywhere; on trees, on bushes, and in our candy.  That’s right, our candy! Enter Mamba, a chewy fruit-flavored candy, that tastes like summer in candy-form! Many chewy candies like that contain gelatin. Mamba was always one of my favorite candies growing up in a non-vegan household, and I am so glad that I can still enjoy them as a vegan. Mamba does also state that they are vegan on the back of the packaging too!

Mamba is made by a German candy company called Storck, and this candy is widely distributed at gas stations, pharmacies, candy stores, grocery stores, and you can find them online at Amazon. Mamba is sold in packages of 18 fruit chews.  You’ll get a treat biting into fresh and fruity orange, strawberry, lemon or raspberry.  There are three different flavors in each package, but there are four possible flavors… so each package is a surprise!

The three flavors are individually wrapped and bundled into packages of six within the outside wrapper. I used to eat Mamba as a child, and I loved the fact that the flavors were a surprise.  Somehow the random factor made the candy-eating experience even more exciting; it was great to open up the wrapper to see what flavors I got that time!  Mambas remind me a little of the non-vegan candy, Starburst; but Mambas are slightly firmer and have a less waxy texture.

Mambas are extra fruity, sweet, and deliciously tangy.  The fruit flavor reminds me of what a fruit smoothie tastes like, and the fruit flavor lingers in your mouth even after you have finished eating a piece.  Enjoy your little piece of summer!
