vegan friendly restaurants in Pittsburgh

Quiet Storm – CLOSED

With breakfast all day long and tons of vegan and gluten-free entree options to choose from, Quiet Storm is a great vegan-friendly restaurant in Pittsburgh. They have a menu that changes daily with lots of great entrees like curries, burritos and tempeh or seitan-based dishes. They even have space for you to hang out and play games!

Oh Yeah!

Oh Yeah! is home to vegan waffles, lattes and soy ice cream right in the heart of Shadyside. Bonus: they have ample outdoor seating for those rare sunny days that Pittsburghers enjoy :) It’s more a brunch place then a restaurant, but we’ve listed it because the vegan waffles are huge and OMG good!

Kaya

I have been to Kaya on a few special occasions, since I am on a tight budget. However, if I was to choose a fancy restaurant to go to for a special occasion, I would choose Kaya. Often, they even have a vegetarian Prix Fixe. They have vegan options as well. A mouth watering multi-course [...]

Round Corner Cantina

The Round Corner Cantina located in trendy Lawrenceville has lots of vegan options and excellent sangria. They have super yummy seitan tacos. They also have AMAZING homemade guacamole… YUM! And all of their yummy food is coordinated nicely with great margaritas.

Spak Brothers Vegan Pizza

Spak Brothers is a pizza shop located in the neighborhood of Garfield. Spak Brothers is the Pittsburgh mecca of vegan junk food. Let’s face it, vegans need junk food too sometimes! Spak Brothers has incredible vegan pizza made with daiya cheese, seitan melts, and tacos. This place has vegan seitan wings that will knock your [...]

Aladdin’s Eatery

Home to fresh fruit or veggie smoothies, super yummy hummus and falafel, Aladdin’s offers many delcious meal options.  Other vegan-friendly options include their grape leaves, vegetarian chili and veggie soup. Their prices are reasonable and their portions are large.  They carry vegan-friendly cookies for dessert too!

Silk Elephant

Located on Murray Avenue in Pittsburgh, the Silk Elephant is a Thai Tapas restaurant. It’s casual and cozy for a happy hour or dinner. Their fresh rolls are 100% plant-based and super yummy. They have many different kinds of teas and noodle dishes that can be made vegan.

Mad Mex

Wow, Mad Mex is super vegan-friendly. They even have vegan soy cheese and tofu sour cream! Also super helpful, they mark all of their veggie menu items with a cactus.

Milky Way Vegetarian Restaurant

The Milky Way is a family owned kosher vegetarian restaurant with amazing vegan pretzels (shown in photograph). They have many vegan lunch/ dinner items including falafel, homemade veggie burgers, portabella mushroom and eggplant sandwiches and super yummy calzones with their homemade dough. Soba

Well-known for its delicious food and exotic drinks, Soba is an upscale restaurant and bar located in Shadyside. The crispy tofu is divine. And the toasted almond cocktail is vegan too… it’s made with sake and coconut milk!

Zenith Vegetarian Cafe

Zenith is part art gallery, part vintage clothing shop, part antique store and a 100% unique dining experience. All of the food is prepared vegan and they offer the option to add dairy to their dishes.  Their menu changes weekly and they always have interesting options.  Specials at the time of this post were: homemade black [...]

China Palace – Shadyside

I LOVE the new China Palace on Walnut in Shadyside! They completely redecorated the restaurant last year and now it has a bright picture window in the front. I’m the only one in my family who is a vegan and this has become our go-to restaurant where everyone can have something great to eat. Their [...]

Nicky’s Thai Kitchen – NO LONGER VEGAN-FRIENDLY

AS OF 6/2013, NICKY’S THAI KITCHEN IS NO LONGER VEGAN-FRIENDLY.  IT USED TO HAVE VEGAN CURRIES, ETC., BUT NOW DOES NOT HAVE GOOD VEGAN OPTIONS.  CONSIDER SMILING BANANA LEAF OR SILK ELEPHANT INSTEAD. Nicky’s Thai Kitchen located on the north side of Pittsburgh has received rave reviews from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The service is good. [...]

Seviche

Josh, Peter and Mark make Seviche absolutely vegan friendly.  Call before you come in and they will make you tofu seviche!  And this seviche is like nothing you’ve had before… made with fresh herbs and exotic vegetables, the server will help you determine which sauce creations will work best.  I always love dining at Seviche – [...]
