Yummy Plants: a vegan lifestyle website and community. We can help you start a vegan diet!
Washington VegFest 2012 – March 24 and 25
Vegfest 2012, sponsored by the Vegetarians of Washington, will bring chefs, authors, and doctors together, in an effort to educate and celebrate plant-based diets. Come to the Seattle Center’s Exhibition Hall on March 24 and 25 from 10am to 6pm for food samples, cooking demonstrations, guest lectures and more.
Enjoy samples of over 500,000 different vegetarian foods from over 200 companies. (We’re not sure how many of the food samples are vegan, but the site mentions they will have baked tofu, garbanzo bean curry and chocolate Silk soy milk). All food samples are free and span American, Mexican, Mediterranean, Italian and Middle Eastern cuisines. In case you find a dish you love, food will be for sale as well, with all proceeds going to benefit the Vegetarians of Washington. There will even be a special section just for children.
The cooking demonstrations will be presented by a range of chefs from the United States and abroad. Iole Aguero was born in Italy and brought her Italian dishes to Seattle. Sureyya Gokeri, of Turkey, will bring her blend of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern styles that form Turkish cuisine. Pranee Halvorsen will bring her expertise in Thai food to Vegfest. Ami Karnosh is a certified nutritionist who encourages people to take control of their health through their diet. Click here for a full list of cooking demonstrations.
Washington Vegfest has also lined up an amazing group of speakers including Neal Barnard, M.D., President of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. Dr. Barnard has authored 14 books including Foods that Fight Pain and Breaking the Food Seduction, and is a leading advocate for plant-based diets. Helmuth Fritz, M.D. has over 20 years of experience of internal medicine and focuses on lifestyle changes to treat and prevent common degenerative diseases. Motivational speaker, and author of Eat Vegan on $4 a Day, Ellen Jaffe Jones promotes and lives a healthy lifestyle. Visit the Washington Vegfest website to see the full list of speakers.
Vegfest 2012 is packed with things to do, see, and learn. We hope you can make it! And if you do, please share your stories and photos with the community!
